Constitution

China Association of Ecolinguistics formulates the following regulations, closely observing the constitution of the International Ecolinguistics Association.

Mission, Vision and Objectives
• To bring together Chinese researchers to explore the role of language in the life-sustaining interactions of humans, other species and the physical environment.
• To promote the development of linguistic theories which see humans not only as part of society, but also as part of the larger ecosystems that life depends on.
• To promote the application of linguistic tools to address ecological issues such as pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental justice.
• To establish an identity for ecolinguistics as an ecological humanities discipline, and build links with other ecological humanities disciplines such as ecocriticism.
• To support conferences, dissemination of research fidings and practical action.

Scope
The focus of China Association of Ecolinguistics is the investigation of impact exerted by the Chinese language and its use (and other languages and their uses as well) on other parts of the overall ecosystem that life depends on. This Association aims to reveal the stories the Chinese people (and other peoples in the world as well) live by, questioning them from an ecological perspective, and searching for new stories to live by that can build a more sustainable world.

Ethics
Since ecolinguistics examines the impact of language and its use on life-sustaining ecosystems, it necessarily has an orientation towards preserving those ecosystems, in the same way that medical science has an orientation to preserving life.
This Association does not promote a specific ecological philosophy (ecosophy), and is open to members who base their work on any ecosophy (e.g., sustainable development or social ecology).

Membership
Membership of this Association is free and open to any researchers or practitioners who wish to explore the role of language in the life-sustaining interactions of humans, other species and the physical
environment. This  includes ecologists, environmentalists and conservationists who are interested in language, as well as linguists and communication researchers who are interested in ecology.

Annual General Meeting of the Association: There will be an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the annual national conference or symposium each year. All the members of the Association Committee will attend the AGM. At the meeting the Chair will give an annual report to the members of the Association, the organiser of the conference or symposium will give a report on the organisation of the conference or symposium, and the Association will negotiate relevant issues with the organiser of the incoming conference or symposium.

Regulations: Changes to the Regulations can be made by the Association Committee in consultation with the members.

Establishment of the Association Committee: The initiators of the Association are automatically the honorary chairs and the chair. The honorary chairs and the chair are responsible for appointing vice chairs and secretaries. The honorary chairs, the chair and vice chairs are responsible for recommending executive members.

Length of Terms: The honorary chairs, the chair, the vice chairs and the executive members can continue in position as long as they are actively contributing to the Association in a constructive way. If they are out of touch for a signifiant length of time or are not acting constructively in their role, then they can be asked to leave by a consensus of other members of the Association Committee.

Finances
This Association holds no central funds. Any funding required for a conference or symposium will need to be provided by the applicant and organiser of the conference or symposium.

Conferences
This Association will periodically hold conferences or symposiums, which will be proposed by an Association Committee member and accepted by consensus of the chairs. The Association will provide support by encouraging members to volunteer to help with the organisation, and by publicising the conference information to its members as well as the International Ecolinguistics Association.
